NOTE: The 30 Days of RMDN™ NFT collection will be available on the Ethereum network for ease of access. Due to popular demand, we will not be using the Polygon network this year, but are open to exploring more eco-friendly chains in the future.

 
 

  • NFTs are a game-changer in making digital art own-able and accessible globally. As more mainstream creatives get into this space, the type of art and design in the space will also adapt, catering to diverse tastes. Everyone will find something that resonates with them. Think of it as just another medium — like art prints, etc. Many are in it for quick money, but an easy rule to apply is that if you like the artist, you like the art, then go ahead and support it, much like the real world.

inspiration

Artist @mraj started the annual 30 Days of Ramadan project in 2016 (Vol. 1) as a daily exploration of personal reflections and learnings during the holy month. Since then, the project featured a different theme every year (as seen below). It serves as a unifying thread offering alternate perspectives reflecting the diversity of the ummah.

The opportunity to expand both creative and spiritual practice, 30 Days of RMDN™ continues to facilitate a space to share the evolution of Islamic design.

  • Sunrise Sunset of Ramadan

    Vol. 1 — Original Series

    2016

    This series featured a daily animation incorporating the Arabic numeral for that day of Ramadan. For example, the sun rising and setting highlights day one — a representation of the daily fast from dawn until dusk.

  • Vol. 2 — canadian fasts

    2017

    In celebration of Canada’s 150th, this year’s series reflected on what it means to be Canadian and Muslim — an exploration of the values that define Canada.

  • Vol. 3 — 30 DAYS COLLAB.

    2018

    Vol. 3 was a collaboration with multiple artists/designers from around the world to showcase their personal relationship with the month of Ramadan.

  • Vol. 4 — LIVING PATTERNS

    2019

    Vol. 4 deconstructed traditional Islamic motifs reinterpreting them in simpler ways. It was an exercise in exploring form while serving the function of slowing down in the process, taking a breath to appreciate the visuals that emerge out of the process.

  • Vol. 5 — QURANIC STORIES

    2020

    Vol. 5 referenced the Quran as a guide to create illustrated manuscripts for each day. Traditions encourage the faithful to celebrate God’s mercy by reciting and reflecting on the book, especially during Ramadan.

  • Vol. 6 — FASTING ANIMALS

    2021

    Vol.6 explored fasting in the animal kingdom. Humans from different cultures and belief systems across the world have been fasting for centuries, but we aren’t the only ones. The playful graphics tug at our innate child-like curiosity, allowing us to find joy in learning while nurturing a deeper connection with nature.

MEET THE ARTIST

@mraj (Mustaali Raj) is an award-winning art director, graphic designer, and visual artist with a multi-disciplinary practice currently based in Vancouver, Canada. Being both a third culture kid and an avid traveller, his sense of belonging extends well beyond geographic boundaries. This multi-faceted sense of belonging and experiences play an important role in exploring intersection of identities through his work.
